What a difference a year makes.

Last year’s strong fourth quarter carried right into 2018 as Class 8 sales in the United States showed a 32.1 percent increase over the opening month in 2017.

Granted, January sales were down35.3 percent from December, but to see a significant decline from December to January is par for the course.

According to WardsAuto, U.S. Class 8 sales in January totaled 14,458 compared with 10,944 in January 2017.

December 2017 sales were 22,355.

Every name plate posted an increase in January 2018 compared with January 2017, led by a 67 percent increase for International and a 42.5 percent for Kenworth.

International was the only OEM that showed an increase in January over December.

The nameplate sold 2,159 units in January compared with 1,939 in December, an increase of 11.3 percent.
